The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo meets First Lie Wins in this electric, voice-driven debut novel about an elusive bestselling author who decides to finally confess her true identity after years of hiding from her past.
Cate Kay knows how to craft a story. As the creator of a bestselling book trilogy that struck box office gold as a film series, she’s one of the most successful authors of her generation. The thing is, Cate Kay doesn’t really exist. She’s never attended author events or granted any interviews. Her real identity had been a closely guarded secret, until now.
As a young adult, she and her best friend Amanda dreamed of escaping their difficult homes and moving to California to become movie stars. But the day before their grand adventure, a tragedy shattered their dreams and Cate has been on the run ever since, taking on different names and charting a new future. But after a shocking revelation, Cate understands that returning home is the only way she’ll be a whole person again.

Kate Fagan is an Emmy Award–winning journalist and the #1 New York Times bestselling author of What Made Maddy Run, which was a semi-finalist for the PEN/ESPN Award for literary sports writing. She is also the author of three additional nonfiction titles, a former professional basketball player, and spent seven years as a journalist at ESPN. Kate currently lives in Charleston with her wife, Kathryn Budig, and their dog, Ragnar.

After a championed career spanning three decades and regarded as the world’s premier point guard, Sue Bird has left her mark on the WNBA and the world of women’s sports. Bird has won five Olympic Gold Medals, four FIBA World Championships, two NCAA Championships, four WNBA Championships among numerous other accolades. Since her retirement in 2022, Sue has quickly established herself as a true trailblazer as a former athlete segueing into the mainstream media business with an unparalleled perspective. She is a co-founder of the women’s sports media commerce company Togethxr; co-founder of the production company, A Touch More, with fiancé and soccer legend Megan Rapinoe; and co-owner of the Seattle Storm. Bird is an outspoken and visible activist advocating for Black Lives, LGBTQ+ rights, equality, health, and wellness and expanding opportunities for girls and all marginalized people.

Two-time World Cup Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist, Megan Rapinoe is a true soccer legend. Among numerous soccer accolades, Megan is also a New York Times Best-Selling author, one of Time 100’s Most Influential People and a Presidential Medal of Freedom award recipient. At the end of 2022, Megan and her fiancé and basketball icon, Sue Bird, launched A Touch More, a production company focused on promoting narratives around revolutionaries who move culture forward; and earlier this year Megan and Sue re-launched their podcast A Touch More: The Podcast, which quickly garnered a large following for its honest and wide-ranging conversations. Rapinoe was recently inducted into the University of Portland Athletics Hall of Fame and the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame. Megan is renowned for her advocacy in LGBTQ+ rights, racial equality and gender equity and has been able to intersect her passion for humanity and authenticity into this next phase of her illustrious career.
