Bringing Line of Duty Deaths down by using the tenets of Below 100 and preparing for life’s ambushes through mental health and wellness training
September 18th – 20th, 2024 - 8:00am – 4:00pm
This seminar presented by the Baltimore County Police Department Peer Support and Wellness Team, will cover the many facets of preparing yourself for a long and healthy law enforcement career. As we move through our personal and professional lives there are many hurdles and “Life’s Ambushes” that we must overcome. Both positive and negative experiences can turn your world upside down in a split second and by preparing for these ambushes, it will allow you to come out on the other side with the best possible outcome.
The Below 100 Program is the base for this seminar as we address the leading causes of Line of Duty Deaths by using the Below 100 Tenets: Wear your belt, Wear your vest, Watch you speed, WIN – What’s Important Now? and Remember Complacency Kills. We can reduce the annual Line of Duty Deaths by focusing on these factors in our control. By using the WIN principle, we will learn how to create a life of wellness and resiliency to overcome “Life’s Ambushes”.
Presenters will provide their real-life experiences concerning the pitfalls of substance abuse, the effects of critical incidents, Line of Duty Injuries, Line of Duty Deaths, suicide and departmental crashes. Instructors will address cumulative stress, critical incidents, substance abuse, lack of sleep, lack of regular exercise and poor diet to better understand the negative effects they have on us physically and mentally. Presenters will provide techniques and resources to improve your resilience to stressors and trauma along with grounding techniques to use for yourself and others that are in crisis.
