Off the Perch is a dynamic trio that blends contemporary song writing with the heartbeat of folk tradition.
At its core, the group weaves acoustic instruments into rich, living textures that evolve into electric soundscapes, evoking the California North Bay’s vast expanse of forest, field, and sea.
Their music rises from the earth yet reaches for the unknown — rooted in craft, lifted by lush harmonies, and driven by original compositions offered by each member.
With every performance, Off the Perch invites listeners into a space where time bends, the duality of beauty and pain intertwine, and where the shared pulse of the human experience becomes a transcendent celebration.
Shopping in Finland came to be when its two members met at a concert in San Francisco in the early 2000’s. Soon after that encounter, they began writing and playing music together, bonding over a shared love of indie music, classic rock and things of obscure or unique beauty, musically and otherwise.
As half of Shopping in Finland, Cody Sikora came from a background in classical cello, jazz guitar, and years of playing in bands in his hometown of Boulder, Colorado, while Jessica Sikora grew up in the Bay Area in a musical family and taught herself guitar from a Beatles guitar-chord book. The two eventually played together in the rock band The Sharpies, touring and opening for bands including the Buzzcocks, Lit, and The Sounds, while also developing an acoustic side project, Shopping in Finland.
Drawing from influences such as Led Zeppelin, Stephen Stills, Prince, Big Star, and David Bowie, their songs are driven by evocative lyrics, rich soundscapes and melodies heavy with harmonic counterbalance, shaped by more than twenty years of friendship, marriage, and a deeply intertwined creativity.
