About The Book
Ofelia the Bee is a lyrical, scientifically accurate children's story that takes young readers on an unforgettable journey inside a bustling beehive. Through Ofelia's eyes, children discover the fascinating lives of queen bees, worker bees, and drones, learning how every bee has a unique role in keeping the hive healthy and thriving.
Blending poetry, storytelling, and real science, Ofelia the Bee transforms curiosity into understanding, replacing fear with appreciation for one of nature's most essential pollinators. More than a story, it is an invitation to see the extraordinary in the smallest of creatures and to inspire a lifelong love of bees, biodiversity, and the natural world.
All proceeds from Ofelia the Bee support the Bee Nice Foundation, whose mission is to educate communities, protect pollinators, support local bee rescues, and cultivate native habitats where bees and the ecosystems they sustain can flourish.
About The Author
Jasmine Izaguirre is a Miami author, educator, and founder of the Bee Nice Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to inspiring a deeper appreciation for pollinators and the natural ecosystems that sustain us all.
Created as the Foundation's flagship educational initiative, Ofelia the Bee is a scientifically accurate story told in prose that brings the inner workings of a beehive to life. Through the eyes of Ofelia, young readers discover the remarkable world of the bees; identifying the difference between Queen, Worker and Drone, learning the essential roles each bee plays in the survival of the hive. By blending science with storytelling, Jasmine hopes to replace fear with understanding, spark curiosity, and inspire children to become lifelong stewards of the natural world.
The Bee Nice Foundation advances this mission through education, the creation of native pollinator gardens, support for local beekeepers and bee rescues, and community projects that protect pollinators and the habitats they depend on. Every copy of Ofelia the Bee directly supports these efforts, with all proceeds benefiting the Foundation's educational and conservation initiatives.
When she's not writing, Jasmine can usually be found exploring nature with her daughters, tending her garden, or dreaming up Ofelia's next adventure. She believes the greatest conservation begins not with fear, but with wonder and that when a child learns to love a bee, they take the first step toward loving the Earth itself.
