OEDD Youth Secretariat Consultation: Halifax, Nova Scotia
About this Event
What to Expect
This in-person consultation is designed to be interactive, informative, and youth-centered. Over the course of two hours, participants will have the opportunity to connect with other Black youth, learn about OEDD's work, and contribute to conversations that will help shape policy recommendations and advocacy priorities.
During the session, you can expect:
✅ A welcoming and inclusive environment
✅ An overview of the Organization for Empowerment and Development of Diverse Communities (OEDD), its programs, and opportunities for youth engagement
✅ Insights into how Black youth perspectives contribute to national and international policy discussions through the Youth Secretariat
✅ Small-group discussions focused on key issues affecting Black communities, including:
- Economic empowerment and employment
- Education and lifelong learning
- Innovation and entrepreneurship
- Equity, inclusion, and justice
- Partnerships and global cooperation
✅ Opportunities to share your experiences, identify priorities for your region, and connect with other emerging leaders and changemakers
✅ Updates on OEDD's post-United Nations work and how consultation findings will inform future policy briefs, advocacy initiatives, and submissions to national and international bodies
No prior policy experience is required. Whether you're a student, entrepreneur, professional, community volunteer, artist, or simply passionate about creating positive change, your voice and perspective are valuable.

This consultation is open to self-identifying Black youth ages 13–35, including (but not limited to) those identifying as:
- African
- Afro-Indigenous
- Black / Black Canadian
- Afro-Caribbean
- Afro-Latinx
