Odyssey Opera's season continues in February 2025 with an excursion to an island you may think you know.Calling The Nude Goddess "not your mother's Lysistrata", Mark Adamo's second opera premiered in 2005 to high praise, with Alex Ross writing in The New Yorker, “It’s shocking how deep this seemingly lighthearted opera goes."
In a radical reinvention, an already scandalous drama of war and love blossoms into 21st Century relevance and deepens into an exploration of the human condition. Adamo remarks, “I love Lysistrata's strut and wit and nerve, its utopian yearnings, its magical locale — an Acropolis where, by dream-logic, a handful of couples can reconcile the love of the battlefield with the battlefield of love.”
Twenty years after its début, Gil Rose conducts and the composer directs an internationally acclaimed cast in Boston’s first-ever performance of Lysistrata.
Book now for a February 15 departure at 7:30 PM from Jordan Hall, presented by Odyssey Opera in collaboration with Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP). Tickets from $35. Student tickets $10.
