Tired of holding things in your hands? Thousands of years ago, textile innovators developed a solution: Bags!
About this Event

Join us in the textile area on Saturdays in October to make four variations of this foundational technology of civilization, designed to help you carry objects suspended from your person while leaving your hands free. No sewing experience required. Each workshop stands alone; you can pick and choose which to attend. Whimsy encouraged.

  • 10/3: Coffee Sack Tote Bag - Green coffee beans arrive at a roaster in burlap sacks. Join us 10/3 and turn a discarded sack from a local roaster into a rugged tote bag large enough for your most ambitious farmer’s market visit!
  • 10/10: Drawstring Backpack – Stitch up a lightweight drawstring backpack with an easy pattern and endless creative possibilities. This class is great for all ages and skill levels, and your finished backpack makes a useful everyday bag or a thoughtful handmade gift.
  • 10/17: Origami Bag – Origami isn’t just for paper! In this fun, hands-on class, you’ll sew a clever folded-style bag with a simple design that can be made in a variety of sizes. Create a practical, eye-catching bag you’ll be proud to show off or give as a gift.
  • 10/24: Cross-body Bag - It’s a purse-like object with cross-body energy. Customize your strap length, and pick out fun prints and upholstery samples to use for the bag panels. No bag will look exactly like yours!
