Hillsborough County official Ross Dickerson will discuss the economic value of the county’s environmental land program, ELAPP. Dickerson is the Environmental Lands Manager for Hillsborough County.
Dickerson’s presentation starts at 7:30 pm at the UF/IFAS Extension office, 5339 County Line Road 579, Seffner. The talk is preceded by an optional Photo Club meeting at 6 pm and an optional potluck at 7 pm. You do not have to be a Tampa Audubon member or register to attend.
Lands preserved through the Jan K. Platt Environmental Lands Acquisition and Protection Program (ELAPP) provide nearly $100 million in ecosystem services benefits per year through flood protection, climate regulation, air pollution removal, and water quality regulation. ELAPP sites also provide habitat for birds and wildlife and a places for people to enjoy nature.
Dickerson is an experienced land manager with over 20 years of experience working with Hillsborough County. He currently manages the Environmental Lands Management Division of the Conservation and Environmental Lands Management Department, administrating the acquisition, management, and use of more than 64,000 acres of natural areas.
The natural areas are managed to support habitat to rare, threatened, and endangered species; sustain ecosystem benefits; and provide environmental education and outdoor recreation.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies from Eckerd College and a Master of Science degree in Park and Resource Management from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania.
