HUMBOLDT ARTS COUNCIL 636 F St. Sponsored by Redwood Capital Bank. William Thonson Gallery & Anderson Gallery: “Junque Art Competition & Exhibition”. Sponsored by Recology. Designed to celebrate artistic creativity on the North Coast, and heighten the awareness of renewable resources in the art making process, each artwork in this juried exhibition is made from 100% recycled materials…reclaimed, reused, recovered, secondhand, salvaged, anything un-new! Anderson Gallery: Kay Harden, “Shade”. Harden’s highly technical landscapes have an unexpected richness when the small black pen strokes play against the white background. The shading that this method creates was the inspiration for the title of this exhibition. “Almost all of my work the past two years has been in black-and-white,” said Harden. “That makes it even more important that each composition is strong enough to stand on its own without using color. Another aspect of creating art and sharing it is to realize that each piece elicits an emotional response—something that attracts viewing time and time again,” continued Harden. Knight Gallery: Serge Scherbatskoy, “Into the Light”, photography. View selected images through the photographer's lens and look closely to see or not to see, what the artist found intriguing as he captured the image. Floyd Bettiga Gallery: Selections from the Natsoulas Collection. Youth Gallery: Humboldt County Author & Illustrator Festival. As part of the Children’s Author & Illustrator Festival, select works from winning illustrators will be on exhibit to demonstrate the processes of illustration in children’s literature. Museum Store/Permanent Collection Gallery: Visit the Museum Store for a selection of gifts and merchandise inspired by the artwork on view by Morris Graves, Glenn Berry, Melvin Schuler and Romano Gabriel. The Museum Store carries a wide selection of posters, contemporary art books, cards, exhibition catalogs, children's books, note pads, tote bags, jewelry, wine glasses, and coffee mugs. Humboldt Arts Council Members receive a 10% discount on all merchandise in the store. Homer Balabanis Gallery/Humboldt Artist Gallery: Venture into the Humboldt Artist Gallery in the Morris Graves Museum of Art—the perfect place to find that unique, original gift.
