Join us on Wednesday, October 23rd the Italian Club as we continue our cultural programming with another exciting Sicilian Culture Presentation. We will welcome Dr. Davide Tanasi (PhD), USF Dept. of History to take us on a one of a kind journey through engaging storytelling and historical insights, this presentation aims to deepen appreciation for Sicily's mysteries and enchantments, inviting a closer look at its complex history and beauty. The presentation will include a variety of pictures and videos too! A delicious Italian Dinner will also be provided courtesy of our friends at Catering By The Family. Tickets are limited and will sell out fast! Every registration includes a charitable donation to the USF Foundation to support archaeological research programs in Sicily to help advance these types of programming
OCTOBER TOPIC: Archimedes: Sicilian Genius and Timeless Innovator! Step into the world of Archimedes, the legendary Sicilian mathematician and inventor from Syracuse whose brilliance continues to awe and inspire. Born in 287 BCE, Archimedes revolutionized science with his discoveries in hydrostatics, statics, and the principle of the lever. His Archimedes' Principle, explaining buoyancy, remains a cornerstone of modern physics. A master inventor and first credited user of the expression "Eureka!", Archimedes created the Claw, the Screw, and the legendary Heat Ray, showcasing his genius in applying scientific principles to solve practical problems and defend his city. His influence even extends to the Antikythera Mechanism, an ancient analog computer that echoes his advanced mathematical concepts. Archimedes' genius is a shining testament to Sicilian ingenuity, reflecting the island's rich tradition of knowledge and innovation.
