Citizen Forester 101 Training at The Train Depot
Join Louisville Grows for Citizen Forester 101 at The Train Depot as we gear up for the fall planting season! This free training will teach you how to plant trees and become a leader in helping your community grow and care for Louisville’s urban forest.

Citizen Foresters are the foundation of Louisville Grows’ Urban Forestry Program! Through this training, participants learn how to help restore and maintain Louisville’s urban forest.
The training will cover:
- Basic tree anatomy and physiology
- Environmental stewardship
- Proper tree planting techniques
- Leadership skills for guiding volunteers in tree planting
The second half of the session will give participants an opportunity to practice their new skills through hands-on tree planting training.
Who can participate?
This training is open to individuals of all abilities, ages 12 and older. All trainees receive an instructional manual and a Citizen Forester T-shirt.
Already a Citizen Forester? You’re welcome to join us for a refresher! This training is a great opportunity to brush up on your tree-planting and volunteer leadership skills and get your hands in the dirt again.
