OCT Ring: Body Movement in Self-tying (& 101 Basics Class)

Learn to move fluidly in self-suspension using space, momentum & spin. Includes tips for all bodies + tying pairs welcome.

Body movement in self-suspension is typically not as natural as one may think. Oftentimes, we find ourselves getting up, or into a desired position, and then having a "Now What?" feeling. In this class, we will cover how to create space, move within it, and utilize resistance or momentum to our advantage, much like aerialists and dancers. For those who wish to suspend fully or partially, we will also touch on the use of a spinner and how spin theory can be your best friend. We will also cover how to move with limited mobility and flexibility. Non-self-suspending tying pairs are welcome to attend and play around with concepts we cover.

It is recommended that attendees have a basic understanding of rope safety, including the use of basic harnesses, and be prepared with 3-5 hanks of rope, depending on whether they wish to stay on the ground or attempt exercises in the air. If they wish to suspend, they must have taken a suspension course (in-person preferred), their own safety shears, all necessary equipment except a hardpoint/ring (which we provide), and an understanding of upline management. All who wish to self-suspend MUST have a spotter with them at all times. Exercises can be done with a series of single columns on the ground if preferred.

101 Rope Basics: In the classroom we will have our monthly Rope Basics Class, covering all the fundamental aspects on rope bondage! We've updated our presentation to include more material and teach a bit more to get you started on your rope journey. You'll learn a bit about the history of rope, how to choose the rope that's right for you, and what we like to discuss before tying with someone. You'll also learn a single column tie, how to extend rope, and frictions to complete your ties! Even if you've been to the Basics before, this might be a great refresher! If you need rope we have it to use and don't worry if you don't have a tying partner! We have extra limbs via furniture.
