Oct 18 @12pm Learn-to-Bike: Intermediate Skills ( Level 3 and Level 4)

If you have mastered the basic bicycling skills like starting, pedaling, stopping, and turning, and you have familiarity with using brakes and shifting gears, you are ready to move to the next level!

Our experienced staff and volunteers will help each participant gain skills and confidence so you’re ready to venture onto the street and keep on rolling! Participants in this workshop will be split into two groups:

Level 3 participants will mostly stay in the plaza and work on the skills, such as the ability to start pedaling without wobbling or having to push a lot with the foot, ability to ride steadily in a straight path, getting more comfortable shifting gears in response to changes in speed and topography, comfort riding with the seat raised up close to hip height, and ability to go up and down a curb ramp.

With Level 4 participants we’ll ride as a group on streets with low-speed traffic, learning how to start and stop safely at traffic signals, ride a safe distance from parked cars and moving vehicles, communicate with other road users, and make turns at intersections. The objective of this workshop is to gain more advanced skills, such as signaling while biking, awareness of door range and a safe riding position in the roadway, ability to ride in a predictable path, and overall confidence being on the street.

If you cannot yet ride independently across a parking lot, please do not register for this clinic. Our Basic Skills is more appropriate.

Si has dominado las habilidades básicas de andar en bicicleta, como arrancar, pedalear, detenerte y girar, y estás familiarizada con el uso de frenos y cambios de marcha, ¡estás lista para pasar al siguiente nivel!

¡Nuestro personal y voluntarios ayudarán a cada participante a adquirir habilidades y confianza para que estés lista para aventurarte en la calle y seguir rodando! Los participantes en este taller se dividirán en dos grupos:

Por mayor parte, los participantes del nivel 3 se quedarán en el City Hall plaza, trabajando en habilidades como arrancando y pedaleando sin tambalearse o tener que empujar mucho con el pie, andando de manera constante en un camino recto, haciendo los cambios para responder a los cambios de velocidad y topografía, sintiéndose cómoda con el asiento elevado cerca de la altura de la cadera y subiendo y bajando una rampa de acera.

Con los participantes del nivel 4, viajaremos en grupo por calles con tráfico de baja velocidad, aprendiendo cómo arrancar y detenerse de manera segura en los semáforos, conducir a una distancia segura de los carros estacionados y los vehículos en movimiento, comunicarse con otros usuarios de la vía y navegar las intersecciones. El objetivo de este taller es adquirir práctica con habilidades más avanzadas, como hacer señales de mano mientras se está andando en la calle, conocimiento del alcance de la puerta, capacidad de andar en un camino predecible y confianza general para estar en la calle.

Si no puedes montar sola de manera independiente en un estacionamiento por favor no te registres para este taller. Tenemos otro taller para habilidades basicas que es más apropiado.
