During the Celtic Tiger,
Orla, a young woman desperate for a career in business, interns with her uncle, Declan, the slimy local councilor in a dead-end town in Westmeath. Major motorway works are underway in the area, uprooting vast swathes of land, angering its fairy denizens. She quickly learns that a life in business isn’t as glamorous as she thought, and one night, she is spirited away.
An absurdist dark comedy,
inspired by Pinter, Beckett, and Brecht, the story is told through satire, Irish folklore, and most importantly puppetry. Ocras an Domhain is a dream of cascading colours, folding between this world and the Other.
The show is being put on by Pobal na bPuipéad, a new independent amateur theatre troupe, in the Teacher's Club on Parnell Square West. We have been working tirelessly to prepare an evening of the bewitching, the strange, and the magical, and we would be overjoyed for you to join us in this exploration of folklore and memory.
