Ocean Sustainability Summit 2025

The summit celebrates Duke University’s 100 years of leadership in ocean sustainability by bringing together global experts to discuss transformative strategies for reducing carbon footprints across seafood supply chains, advancing traceability and transparency, and fostering climate-resilient practices in fisheries and aquaculture. Key topics include shortening supply chains to prioritize locally sourced, traceable seafood; empowering small-scale fishers and aquafarms through equitable opportunities; and embracing the concept of “eating with the ecosystem” by diversifying seafood consumption to balance harvest pressure on high-demand species and support sustainable fisheries. Additionally, the summit will explore innovative approaches such as incorporating seaweed as a sustainable Omega-3 source to promote climate-resilient diets and bridging the gap between cutting-edge technologies and practical solutions to build sustainable blue food systems.
