Join us for a two-hour walk at Shearwater Park on Shearwater Dr. (across from the harbor) in Ocean Springs for an introduction to edible and medicinal plants.Cost: $20 per person; children attend free. Please bring a notebook and pen for notes, and a water bottle.
Space is limited to 10 cars so please try to carpool, walk or ride your bike. When you register please let us know how you will be arriving because we will close the class after 10 cars. To reserve your spot send payment via Venmo @Sophia-Forstall or plan to pay cash at the event. If you plan to pay cash, please let us know ahead of time so we can reserve your spot and add you to the group chat where we will share event details and updates.
π Sophia, from Soma Remedies, is a Louisiana native plant professional who has been studying herbalism for over eight years. She studied under Rosemary Gladstar and Lynda Baker, worked at PJ Farm in Saucier, MS, and currently works for ABECA Naturals out of South Carolina. Website: www.somaremedies.com
π Melissa, from meliβs flora, has been studying foraging and herbalism for six years. She is a student of Chestnut School of Herbs, Wild Herb Academy, and Kami McBride. Melissa is also a vendor at the Ocean Springs Fresh Market every other Saturday.
Both herbalists share a passion for identifying plants and using them to create herbal offerings for the community. During the walk, you'll learn to identify native and introduced species of plants and trees while discussing medicinal and culinary uses, ethnobotany, sustainable harvesting practices, folklore, and harvesting techniques.
