Occidental College | California Electoral Reform Town Hall
About this Event
Democracy Reform Town Hall at Occidental College
What would California politics look like with more than two parties? Join an interactive town hall on proportional representation and the future of electoral reform in California.
Occidental College’s Politics Department welcomes Caledon Myers of the California ProRep Coalition for an interactive town hall.
Participants will learn how proportional representation works, how it differs from California’s current electoral system, and the arguments surrounding possible reforms. You’ll then join students, faculty, and community members in small-group discussions about the key questions and tradeoffs involved in designing an electoral system.
You don’t need to be an election expert to participate. Whether you’re enthusiastic, skeptical, undecided, or completely new to the topic, your perspective is welcome!
Come ready to:
- Learn how proportional representation works and how it compares with California’s current system
- Discuss the opportunities, tradeoffs, and design choices involved in electoral reform
- Share your questions and perspectives with Occidental students, faculty, and community members
