Occasional Cajun Band! Every 2nd Sunday of the month! 4-6pmft. special guest, Jeff Yonkus!
From Chicago, fiddler (and luthier) Jeff Yonkus will be the special guest for the Occasional Cajun Band gig on Sunday, May 12. Originally from Yorkville, IL, Jeff has been playing Cajun, Irish, old-time, traditional country music and more in the Chicago area for the last fifteen years, During that time, Jeff also made many trips to Louisiana to attend the music camps and festivals. He has taken fiddle lessons with Ed Poullard, Hadley Castille, Al Berard and others. In recent years, he's also picked up the Cajun accordion. You might recognize Jeff as he regularly attends the C-U Folk and Roots Festival. There is also a family connection as Jeff is Rob Krumm's nephew.
The Occasional Cajun Band plays a mix of traditional Cajun, Creole and Zydeco music. The band performs music found in the dancehalls (and at festivals) in southwest Louisiana including lively two-steps, soulful waltzes, and get-down Zydeco. We hope that you'll want to dance. Musical influences include the Balfa Brothers, Boozoo Chavis, Bois Sec Ardoin, Canray Fontenot, Preston Frank, and Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys.Based in Urbana, the lineup includes Matt Turino (fiddle) Rob Krumm (accordion), Charlie Harris (bass), Sam Payne (guitar), Dave Pride (drums) and this months special guest Clayton Burke on pedal steel.
