We’re proud to have Dr. William Gow join us to talk about his latest book, "Performing Chinatown: Hollywood, Tourism, and the Making of a Chinese American Community," which explores the Chinese American community’s contributions to the Hollywood film industry and Los Angeles tourism scene during the early 20th century, and how this shaped mainstream perceptions of Asian American identity.
This event is free and open to the public.
Dr. Gow is a Sacramento-based community historian, educator, and documentary filmmaker. He currently serves as the co-director of the Five Chinatowns Community History Project for the Chinese Historical Society of Southern California and is Assistant Professor of Asian American Studies at California State University, Sacramento.
