Obtaining Employment While Living with a Mental Illness
Employment can be an important part of recovery for those living with a mental illness. In this class series, learn how to find employment, discuss and disclose mental illnesses in the workplace, request accommodations, and what benefits and supportive employment resources are available. This class is open to individuals living with a mental illness who are interested in gaining and keeping employment and will address common work-related questions.
REGISTRATION IS NOT REQUIRED TO ATTEND
This is a class series and will be broken up into 5 sessions:
1. October 22nd: Getting Ready
Learn how to prepare for a successful job search, including self-assessment and understanding your needs in the workplace.
2. October 29th: Applications and Resumes
Learn how to create impactful job applications and resumes that showcase your skills and experiences while addressing any potential work gaps.
3. November 5th: Community Resources
Explore local resources and support networks that can assist with finding and maintaining employment for those living with mental illness.
4. November 12th: Healthcare and Benefits Planning
Get informed about benefit planning and how employment may impact your benefits, with guidance from a Goodwill-Easter Seals representative.
5. November 19th: Success on the Job
Learn strategies for thriving in the workplace, including handling mental health challenges and asking for accommodations.

If you are unable to attend, a substitute individual is welcome to attend in your place, but NAMI Minnesota must be notified in writing (e-mail is acceptable) with the name and contact information for the person who will be attending. NAMI Minnesota reserves the right to cancel any event, conference or class due to weather or unforeseen circumstances. If there is a cancellation, participants will be notified by telephone and/or email as soon as possible. We will make reasonable efforts to reschedule.
