Observational Drawing: Still Life & Figures

For Ages 12 - 18 - This class is perfect for students who want to focus on rendering skills and learning new ways of looking. Working with both still life and figure drawing, we will explore rendering and shading techniques, including contour drawing, gesture drawing, cross-hatching, and stippling. We will also discuss perspective, proportion, and learn how to put these concepts to use. For inspiration, we will discuss contemporary artists, including Kerry James Marshall, Manny Farber, Becky Suss, and Amoako Boafo. Additionally, we will tour the work of artist Alison Saar, whose exhibition Of Aether and Earthe is currently on view at the Armory, and draw inspiration from her art as we create our own unique pieces. Materials are provided and included in the price of the class.
