About this Event
Please Read: These are small-group sessions & each participant is very important! Please take note of the date and time before claiming a spot. If you think you may have a conflict, please do not sign up (email Ari instead for waitlist/email list) & wait until next time. The "free-ness" is for research purposes, not an indication of rigor/seriousness/fun.
This is the thrid session in a series of four monthly workshops from The Always Human Research Group, led by Ari. As a participant, you are not only reconnecting your mind and body, grounding yourself, and invigorating your creativity, you are also helping Ari advance their somatic movement research.
In this workshop, we will use the concept of “affordances” (action possibilities) to explore the world of everyday objects. We will decode material intelligence by combining elements of rapid ideation, mapping, a bit of acting, and somatic movement to create new narratives told by the objects themselves. You will be asked to bring items (brief in a follow-up email) that we will use as a well to draw from. At the end you will present & perform your story. This is a little bit 100 Ways of Sitting and a little bit 100 Days of Balloons & we will be taking pictures similar to these!

What to bring/wear: Ari will have writing materials and everything necessary for the workshop. While we aren't dancing, we will be doing movement warm-ups and moving from sitting to standing frequently. We will be shooting documentation of the workshop too! You will also be asked to bring objects & Ari will follow-up with you about that in an email.
Number of attendees: This event is capped at 8. If you think you may not be able to attend, do not sign-up. Please let Ari know asap if there are any issues.
Accessibility Note: We will be moving & sitting on the ground for writing & discussion. There are cushions for sitting, but please let Ari know if you need a chair. The space is up a set of stairs and does not have an elevator. For future sessions, we will change locations if accessibility needs require it.
Documentation: You will be given releases for images so that Ari may include images in future research materials. If you do not wish to be included in that, you can let them know.
Arrival: You will be able to get in the space 10 mintues before, we will start right at 12 so we have time to document the work :)
