Oasis Insight Conference Zurich, hosted in collaboration with Swiss Re
About this Event
This conference at Swiss Re's headquarters in Zurich brings together catastrophe modelling professionals, re/insurers, models vendors and researchers to share insight, challenge conventions and chart the future of risk quantification.
The one day event focuses on the evolving role of open standards, user empowerment, adjusting models, navigating uncertainty and forward looking discussions around opportunities and challenges for the future of catastrophe modelling.
The day closes with reception drinks from 16:30. A relaxed opportunity to continue the conversation with peers from across the industry.
A high level agenda is presented below. Topics and speakers may be subject to change.
Agenda
🕑: 10:00 AM - 10:30 AM
Welcome and Introduction
Host: Beat Aeberhardt - Head Cat and Geo Modelling (Swiss Re)
🕑: 10:30 AM - 11:15 AM
Navigating Uncertainty: How the Industry Deals with What We Don’t Know
Host: Simos Koumoutsaris - Global Head of Cat R&D (SCOR)
Info:
Uncertainty is not a flaw in catastrophe models, it is an intrinsic feature of any attempt to quantify rare, complex, and only partially observable phenomena. Yet the industry frequently presents model outputs as precise point estimates, and decision-makers often treat them that way. This session brings together practitioners from across the industry to examine how uncertainty is currently handled, where the gaps lie, and what better practice looks like.
🕑: 11:15 AM - 12:00 PM
Adjusting Models: what do we need to do, what role should model vendors play?
Host: Simona Esposito - Nat Cat Analyst/ UW Lead (Swiss Re)
Info: Model adjustment raises different issues depending on where you sit, underwriter, exposure manager, or actuary. Drawing on real past and current experience, this panel examines the key challenges of adjusting models: how much transparency is really needed, whether underwriters can be expected to have that technical knowledge, and what role actuaries should play alongside exposure management and underwriting teams.
🕑: 12:00 PM - 01:30 PM
Networking Lunch
🕑: 01:30 PM - 01:45 PM
Lightning Rounds
Host: Concinnity Risks
Info: Short format presentations to hear the latest updates from our Modellers in the Oasis Ecosystem - including new models, new research and new opportunities.
🕑: 01:45 PM - 02:30 PM
Open Standards and Interoperability for Cat Model Access
Host: Max Strasser - Head of Global Model Dev, Guy Carpenter
Info: This panel explores the critical role of interoperability in the insurance modeling market, tracing the evolution from limited vendor choice to the current Oasis-enabled ecosystem . The discussion will examine the maturity of Open Exposure Data (OED) alongside the emerging potential of Open Results Data (ORD), while addressing operational challenges like model version consistency and market adoption barriers. By way of an interactive Q&A format, the session aims to foster a candid dialogue on how common standards and platform integration can drive efficiency and innovation across the industry .
🕑: 02:30 PM - 03:00 PM
Networking Break
🕑: 03:00 PM - 03:30 PM
Lightning Rounds
Host: Fathom
Info: Short format presentations to hear the latest updates from our Modellers - including new models, new research and new opportunities.
🕑: 03:30 PM - 04:30 PM
Opportunities and Challenges for the Future
Host: Iwan Stalder - Zurich
Info: This closing panel ranges across the biggest open questions in cat modelling today: what underwriters actually need to know, the value of multiple models versus building your own, the confidence trap in communicating uncertainty, and whether we really understand exposure data quality, closing with a look at where underwriting is headed and the skills the industry will need to get there.
Bringing together the day's themes of interoperability, user empowerment, and uncertainty, industry leaders close out the conference by identifying the inflection points that will define the next decade.
