About this Event
Why a Oneness Summit?
The Bahá’ís of Oakville, like so many others, share a deep concern for the well-being of children, youth, and families in our community. We believe that by coming together in a spirit of unity, we can learn from one another and explore meaningful social and spiritual solutions that help the next generation thrive and contribute to a more purposeful, joyful future for all.
2025 Theme: The Well-Being of Children, Youth and Families in Halton -
Nurturing the Next Generation
This year, The Oakville Oneness Summit invites us to ask big questions about the happiness and prosperity of our youngest generation. Exploring solutions through multiple lenses (spiritual, social, cultural, educational), participants are invited to share their own insights and experiences, and to contribute to the conversation on how children and youth in Halton are faring—their struggles and the supports they need to grow as capable contributors and leaders.
“Children are the most precious treasure a community can possess, for in them are the promise and guarantee of the future. They bear the seeds of the character of future society which is largely shaped by what the adults constituting the community do or fail to do with respect to children. They are a trust no community can neglect with impunity....”. The Universal House of Justice
Breakout and Main Stage Topics
1) Families as the First School of Moral Development
Families are where children first experience love, justice, and cooperation. Parents and caregivers guide them to develop resilience, kindness, and purpose. As children grow, these lessons adapt, helping them become confident and capable contributors.
2) Preparing Youth to Contribute to Society
As youth mature, they need encouragement to discover their identity, inner strength, and sense of purpose. With guidance from families and communities, they can resist negative influences and step into leadership, making positive contributions to schools, neighborhoods, and workplaces.
3) Social Media and the Rise of Mental Health Challenges
In an age where social media and other powerful influences shape daily life, children and youth are navigating complex pressures. Families are not isolated units, but part of a larger circle of mutual support, generosity, and progress.
Some Questions to Guide the Conversation
- What are our highest aspirations for the children and youth of our community today?
- What values and habits are most important for children to learn?
- How are families helping children build confidence, empathy and social connections?
- What opportunities do youth have to contribute meaningfully to their community?
- How can families and local organizations partner to help youth resist harmful influences?
- What role can community orgs play in nurturing leadership and resilience in our youth?
- What external pressures affect youth and families today? How can we respond?
- What spaces exist in Halton for youth to seek mentorship, support and help as needed?
All are welcome to engage in the dialogue with openness, collaboration, and a commitment to shared learning.
