Oak Woodlands Ecology and Photography Walk

Join Vanessa Westerfield, certified California Naturalist and photographer, for a guided hike and photography workshop. This small group class offers a unique combination of field ecology and nature photography. Learn how to use your camera to its best abilities while also learning about what plants, wildlife, and habitats you're photographing. You'll see how much photography can open your eyes to the smallest details, and what an fun and fulfilling observation tool it can be.

This workshop takes place at Crane Creek Regional Park. It's an easy hike that is accessible to all skill levels. You'll be able to explore and learn about the magical details of oak woodlands and oak savannahs that most people simply walk by without noticing. You'll learn about some of our native plants and likely see several species of birds.

This workshop requires that you own or have access to a camera that is not a phone camera. DSLRs and mirrorless SLRs are recommended, however bridge cameras and high-end point-and-shoots can also work well. This workshop is very beginner-friendly- don't worry if you have no idea how to use your camera yet! That's what I'm here for.

The hike will take place late afternoon, when we have a good chance of catching some golden hour lighting for landscapse toward the end. Be aware that there is an $8 day-use fee as it is a regional park.
