In late 1942 the United States government acquired the land that was to become Oak Ridge. Once everyone had been removed from their land and the new city of Oak Ridge was built, over 80 small cemeteries remained. Although the native pre-Oak Ridgers continued to use these family cemeteries, post-war Oak Ridgers realized they needed a new, local community cemetery. Mike Stallo will discuss the history of these local cemeteries, with a focus on people ranging from 1800-2020.
Light refreshments will be provided.
