Join OPL and the Opelika Auburn Film Arts Collective to celebrate Home Movies Day!
Home Movie Day is an international event that serves to teach the public about care of film and a space to showcase people’s home movies. It is the marriage of people’s personal archives and a wonderful chance to glance a broad range of history and place.
OAFAC will be here to clean and teach maintenance of old family films and then will screen any films that they are able to.
Participants are encouraged to bring their personal films to the event to be displayed. It is open to anyone with old reels.
They will have access to a projectionist with extensive knowledge of film maintenance, a 16 mm projector, an 8 mm projector, and a super 8 projector.
Dr. Andrea Kelley, associate professor of Media Studies in AU’s School of Communication and Journalism, will be speaking after lunch to discuss the purpose and importance of Home Movie Day and address the question “why do home-movies matter?”.
The purpose of this event is mining personal archives and providing a very unique take on history.
