This class aims to preserve and pass on the knowledge of nalbinding, the most ancient method of knitting yarn into fabric. Attendees will learn the cultural and archaeological history of nalbinding, how to create the Oslo stitch and various techniques such as increasing, decreasing and felting on. This class gives attendees the skills to create hats, mittens, socks, pouches and more.
Caroline Taylor, a historical reenactor based in Lancaster, has a passion for bringing ancient crafts back to life in our modern world. She specialises in using natural fibres for spinning, natural dying, weaving and nalbinding, some of which are now endangered crafts.
Everything you'll need for the class is included; a nalbinding needle and Jacobs yarn - which you can take home at the end to practice! There will be a break for lunch (lunch not included.)
