NYC Zouk is excited to kick off a new progressive 8-week series of Brazilian Zouk classes starting Monday OCTOBER 21st, with Levels 2 & 3! We have the opportunity again to learn from this amazing couple all the way from Brazil. Classes will be led by Ana and Pedro and assisted by a team of NYC Zouk instructors/dancers.
Join us every Monday evening at Ripley Grier studios in Manhattan to grow your skills in this beautiful dance and make new friends in the Brazilian Zouk community.
In each 8-week cycle we focus on a different set of moves, concepts and techniques, so you can continue learning and growing with us throughout the year!

ABOUT THE CYCLE
THIS 8 WEEK CYCLE WILL CONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING THEME:
Groove, Smoothness, and Floorcraft
🟨1st and 2nd Week: Bounce it.🟨
Topics: Bouncing and Grounding.
Using your knees to add flavor to your dance.
🟨3rd and 4th Week: Hips don’t lie.🟨
Topics: Hips Isolations, Timing and Rhythm. Exploring lower body motions in groovy songs.
🟨5th and 6th Week: Like a wave.🟨
Topics: Undulations, Frame and Weight Transfer. Mastering body awareness and smoothness.
🟨7th and 8th Week: What goes around comes around.🟨
Topics: Circularity, Floor craft and Pivots.
Adapting Linear movements to circular.

BRAZILIAN ZOUK LEVEL 2 : 7-8pm
This progressive course is designed for students with some Zouk experience (3+ months of regular courses) or substantial experience in other dance styles (2+ years). We will review the curriculum above with a focus on the techniques that make the dance feel comfortable and fluid, unlocking higher level concepts and patterns.
BRAZILIAN ZOUK LEVEL 3: 8-9pm
This course will utilize the techniques from Level 2 to survey higher level movements, including stylistic variations and head movement.

For beginner to intermediate Zouk dancers who want to build on their basics and enjoy social dancing with confidence. If you’ve learned the fundamentals and want to keep progressing to the next level – with more moves and a deeper understanding of Zouk technique – this series is for you!
This series is designed for those who have completed 2 months or more of Level 1 Zouk classes. You should be familiar with fundamental Zouk moves including lateral, viradinha, and soltinho.

You can still sign up for the rest of the package if you missed the first (or more) classes! You can drop in during any week or sign up for the rest of the series at a prorated rate from Weeks 1 to 5.

For the final class, we will be offering only the drop-in rate.
We accept drop-ins, however these classes are designed to be progressive so we highly recommend signing up for the full series or the remaining weeks to get the most out of it.

SAME DAY 1 Class = $25
SAME DAY 2 Classes = $45 ONLY ON THE SAME DAY. Note you can not combine different days. 2 Class DROP IN RATE is for the DAY OF.

ABOUT ANA AND PEDRO
From Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Pedro and Ana are Brazilian Zouk Instructors certified by MAC, Alex de Carvalho’s method. They are also certified judges with the Brazilian Zouk Dance Council ( BZDC ). Both have a dance background that goes beyond the partner dance field. Pedro studied at dance schools focused on solo dances such as Contemporary and Classical Ballet. Ana is also a Contemporary and Classical Ballet instructor trained at the Municipal Theatre of Rio de Janeiro.The duo is highly experienced in teaching due to their contact with students of all ages at ‘Alex de Carvalho’s Dance School’ where they have developed an accessible and fun teaching approach.Now based in Canada, Pedro and Ana are developing a dance community in Toronto, as resident dance instructors. Together, they promote and spread the Brazilian Zouk Culture in Canada and North America.The couple has also been teaching at the most renowned Zouk Festivals in Canada, the USA, Brazil and Europe.
