GET READY!

  • Training: Consider incorporating interval training into your exercise routine, even if time is limited. Consistency is key, as it takes time for training to result in physiological changes.
  • Nutrition: Maintain a well-rounded diet with a good amount of carbohydrates, fruits, and vegetables. Limit intake of processed foods and sugars, and include lean proteins like chicken, fish, or pulses for muscle development and repair. Prior to your ride, ensure you eat nutritious food and get ample rest in the days leading up to it.
  • Hydration: Stay hydrated by drinking fluids regularly during your ride instead of waiting until you feel thirsty. Dehydration can be problematic, but be cautious not to drink excessive fluids at once, which can lead to discomfort later on.
  • Clothing: Choose appropriate shoes and socks based on the weather conditions. For sweat wicking socks to manage sweat and dry quickly. Additionally, consider using bib shorts with shoulder straps to prevent your jersey from riding up and alleviate pressure on your waistband.
  • Sun protection: Safeguard your skin and eyes from UV rays by wearing sunscreen, cycling sunglasses, and a cycling cap or visor. Apply sunscreen before your ride and reapply as necessary.
  • During the ride: Allocate extra time to reach the starting point and pace yourself wisely. Starting too fast can lead to premature fatigue, while going too slow may hinder your performance. Pack enough sustenance, including a mix of solid food and fluids, to keep your energy levels up throughout the ride.
