Developing a watercolor painting by starting with wet-on-wet technique and moving into detail via multiple renditions.
About this Event

We will meet at the corner of 9th Street and Prospect Park West, near the entrance to Prospect Park, Brooklyn. There is a playground a few feet away and there are bathrooms in the playground. We will paint in Prospect Park in an area where we can paint nature as well as architecture.

Workshop is scheduled for June 14. We have a rain date of June 15. As the day approaches we will assess the weather and communicate via the email address you used to enroll.

In this workshop we will begin our paintings in a loose style, and build detail and specific information as we go. Starting with a wet-on wet approach and allowing watercolor to blend, we will see the beauty of the medium shine. We will work in multiples, allowing the paint to dry on one piece while we start on another. Working in this way the color of the first layer will distribute, mix and form halos. The beauty of the first layer will peek through and create a looseness and freshness for our work.

The instructor will start with a 20-30 minute demonstration using the wet-on-wet technique for the first layer. Questions and comments are encouraged. She will begin 3 different paintings to show a range of how this step can work for you.

Then for 20 minutes everyone will find a spot that interests them and set up. Everyone should have a few sheets of paper ready so they may work on multiples and paint their wet-on-wet layer on 2-3 sheets of their paper.

Then for 10 to15 minutes everyone will gather together as paintings are drying. The instructor will show some work of other artists who have used his technique and how they built upon their first layer. The instructor will also demonstrate how she approaches the next layer on her dried paintings.

Then for 90 minutes everyone will return to their painting spots and will work on the next layers of their 3 paintings. The instructor will come by to see everyone’s work and make suggestions.

In the last 30 minutes we will gather to share our paintings and our experiences. All questions and observations are encouraged.
