About this Event
AI technology like OpenAI's ChatGPT, Google's Gemini, Github's Copilot, Midjourney and many others will play an increasingly large role in our day-to-day lives. To this end, New York AI Users will host our twelfth tech talks & social gathering at private space in NoMad. We're very excited to host with ThoughtWorks, a global tech consultancy. They will graciously provide free drinks and food for the social portion of this event, and we're excited to take advantage of their top notch AV system for the talks. The space and accommodations will be perfect for our talks and the social that follows.
From the creators and organizers of New York Tech & Beer®, New York AI Users organizes high-quality AI events that both educate and connect AI enthusiasts in the New York area who use or want to use AI to meet their creative, entrepreneurial, and technical aspirations. No technical background is required, only an interest in learning about these tools of the future.
For our twelfth meeting, we will gather at ThoughtWorks and we will host:
- Talks on AI:
- For our first talk, we will hear from Shafik Quoraishee. His talk on AI in video games traces the evolution from simple rule-based systems in early arcade games to advanced machine learning models in modern titles. Shafik will cover key concepts like pathfinding algorithms (e.g., A*), decision-making systems (FSMs, behavior trees), and procedural content generation, showcasing their roles in enhancing NPC behavior and creating vast game worlds. We will also discuss the potential of generalized world models and large language models (LLMs) in creating dynamic game environments and sophisticated NPC interactions, supported by case studies from popular games. Shafik is a Games Engineer for the New York Times, currently working on the New York Times Games Team.
- Our second talk will be by Lee Gaul. There is much enthusiasm around the rapid advancement of AI systems, with much of that attention being squarely focused on Large Language Models. But there's a problem. In order to see the continued advancement of these models, they need to be trained on an unfathomably large amount of fresh data, something we're quickly running out of. In his talk, Lee will be exploring why it's essential to train these models on human generated data, and how some labs are grappling with the impending data crunch. He will delve into how labs are finding new ways to train models and what you can expect will be the future of AI training data in the months and years ahead.
Lee Gaul, founder of Long Horizon AI, is an accomplished AI advisor and speaker with a deep fascination for Large Language Models (LLMs), AI-powered chatbots, alignment, and education. With a background in philosophy from the University of Windsor and over a decade of experience in the tech industry, Lee brings a unique perspective to the rapidly evolving world of AI. - After the talks, there will be social time with the attendees and the speakers for the remainder of the evening
We’re excited to see you soon!
