NYC 520 - Conference House Park Bluebelt Tour

Bluebelts are green infrastructure systems that combine engineering and nature for stormwater management. These systems store, move, and filter rainfall to improve water quality, reduce flooding, and provide diverse wildlife habitat.

This guided tour will explore Conference House Park, home of Staten Island’s first bluebelt system and the southernmost point of NYC. Rob Brauman, Deputy Chief of Bluebelt Operations for the Department of Environmental Protection will offer insights into the design and function of this key infrastructure. Highlights will include a restored stream, tidal and freshwater wetlands, as well as local flora and fauna. The tour will end with an opportunity to see the recently completed Living Breakwaters, nature-based coastal protection infrastructure just off the park’s coast.

The meeting place for the event is 753 Clermont Avenue on Staten Island at the intersection of Clermont Avenue and Finlay Street. Street parking is available along Clermont Avenue.

This is a walking tour that will include uneven dirt and gravel paths.

The event will proceed rain or shine, though extreme weather will lead us to reschedule.
