July 13th & 14th 2024. Polaris Hall. Portland Our two-night fest celebrates the best in Experimental Rock from the West Coast. This year, the Festival takes place at gorgeous Polaris Hall, part of the Mississippi Studios/Revolution Hall family. We’re hosting some exciting headlining acts!
Music beyond radio mainstream.
What is Post-Rock? Music to drive to, to daydream to, to be productive with or music to cry and rage to. Post-Rock can be characterized as an escape from typical structures of Rock music. With the help of dynamics and tone modulation and the use of repetitive musical themes, a soundscape is created. Picture a heavier form of classical music, played with rock instruments. The openness of the soundscapes lend a place for listeners to tell their own stories and tap into their own emotions making it a musical genre which is capable of creating a strong emotional bond with the listener. This strong bond lends itself to not only a fun event celebrating music, but one with a very strong community feel.
Our carefully curated musical journey starts heavy and haunting, moving into ethereal and dreamy, but ends with all kinds of Summer fun and fruitiness. It will be an unforgettable experience.
Night One: July 12th
Eight Bells, Dust Moth, A Collective Subconscious, Nine Forty: PM, Museum of Light
Headlining- Eight Bells
Experimental metal band based in Portland. Formed by guitarist Melynda Jackson after SubArachnoid Space disbanded, toured with acts such as SubRosa and played Pscyho Las Vegas. "Wraithlike vocals and numbed melodies hanging over pinprick prog fretwork... The pulse of ethereal '70s rock – Heartbreakingly Beautiful" - Pitchfork https://eightbells.bandcamp.com/
Dust Moth: Shoegaze/alternative rock band from Seattle, formed by members of the bands Undertow, These Arms Are Snakes, and Minus the Bear. Dust Moth is a nocturnal juggernaut gravitating towards the light—a restless collective of Seattle art rock veterans injecting beauty and femininity into their wall-of-sound dirges. https://dustmothband.bandcamp.com/
A Collective Subconscious: Post Rock/Post Metal/ Stoner from Portland. An amalgamation of heavy-hitting drums and distorted bass, rich layers of guitars and effects, heightened into the atmosphere by pillowy keys and cosmic synth. https://www.acollectivesubconscious.com/
Nine Forty: PM: Shoegaze/Noise Pop from Portland. Loud and Moody. This night marks Nine Forty: PM's final show as two of its members are moving to California. Don't miss your chance to see them. https://ninefortypm.bandcamp.com/album/wave
Museum Of Light: Grunge/Post Rock from Seattle. Museum Of Light's debut album is released on Spartan Records. Their sound balances the opposing worlds of heavy and ambient music: equal parts big, crushing, overwhelmingly heavy riffs and dreamy, Zen-like washes of ambience and found sound. https://museumoflightband.bandcamp.com/album/horizon
Night Two: July 13th
STANDARDS, Childspeak, Object Unto Earth, Mike Scheidt, Amber Ambedo
Headlining- Standards
Math Rock from LA. Their self-described "fruity" melodies and technical musicianship have earned them somewhat of a cult following over the years. The band's ebullient songwriting is a uniquely danceable brand of complex instrumental rock. Since the group's inception in late 2017, standards have released two beloved EPs and played with the likes of Polyphia, Covet, and Delta Sleep https://www.standards-band.com/
Childspeak: Math Rock/Progg from Portland and formerly Eugene. The band's dynamic control of rhythmic patterns creates rock energy and joy and tickles the brain. https://childspeakmusic.bandcamp.com/album/datura
Object Unto Earth: Math/Emo/Post Hardcore from Portland. This newer band is currently recording their debut album and plans to release a new single the night of the festival. https://objectuntoearth.bandcamp.com/track/onward-with-blinding-speed
Mike Scheidt: Mike Scheidt is the guitarist and lead vocalist of doom metal band YOB from Eugene. Scheidt's first solo album, Stay Awake, was released in 2012 featuring his dynamic vocal range and showcasing acoustic guitar work. https://mikescheidt.bandcamp.com/album/stay-awake
Amber Ambedo: Post Rock from Portland. Amber Ambedo is the new and highly anticipated followup project for a couple of the former members of Long Hallways and features members of Mark & The Horsejerks and Nine Forty: PM. Amber is the inner child. Ambedo is a melancholic dream-like state. See what this band has in store as they make their debut. https://www.instagram.com/amber_ambedo_/
