It's that time of year again....where WVSA takes part in the Stand Down event hosted by the American GI Forum.
The American GI Forum's Veterans Stand Down is taking place on 5 November. This is on a FRIDAY.
WVSA will be setting up in their Women's Pavilion handing out feminine hygiene products and other much needed items to the homeless women Veterans who are at this event.
We need 6 volunteers per shift to come help us hand out all of the donations we were given from our wonderful supporters throughout San Antonio. We are limited to the number of volunteers we can have at a time and request volunteers sign up at:
https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0D44A9A72BAAFD0-nvop.
Here are the area we need help on this day:
1) Bra station- Need 1 WVSA member to engage with the women as they come through. Find out what size they need and give them 2-3 bras each
2) Underwear & Sock station- Need 1 WVSA members to engage with the women as they come through. Find out what sizes they need and give them 2-3 pair
3) Feminine Hygiene station - Need 2 WVSA members to engage with the women as they come through. Point out what we have available, and give them what they need/want.
4) Counter- Need 1 WVSA members to count how many people come through for our services
We are limited to the number of volunteers we can have at a time and request volunteers sign up at:

What is the Stand Down?
The Stand Down provides homeless Veterans access to the services of more than 50 community agencies that provide medical and dental services, hot food, clothing, medical exams, flu shots, haircuts, a community court, and a variety of supplies and information.
Most of the services provided at the Stand Down are focused on the male Veteran. There are little to no resources, clothing, or hygiene items provided to the homeless women Veterans in attendance. This is where the WVSA comes in. We will be handing out feminine hygiene products and other much needed items to the homeless women Veterans who come through. We have also brought in a volunteer hairdresser-the guys shouldn't be the only ones who can get a haircut!
Participating in the Stand Down not only provides WVSA members with another avenue for bonding, socializing, and networking with other community partners, but also offers homeless women Veterans a stepping stone of reconnection and camaraderie that leads to more profound service engagement and eventually into self-sufficiency.
