In collaboration with Beirut's Nadi Lekol Nas, we're pleased to invite you to the screening of the restored copy of "War Generation-Beirut", made in 1988 by Lebanese filmmaker Jean Chamoun and Palestinian filmmaker Mai Masri. The screening will take place on Tuesday October 6 and will be accompanied by a conversation with Naja Al Achkar, founder of Nadi Lekol Nas, on the work of finding, restoring, and sharing some of Lebanon's most important film heritage over the years. Special thanks to Alexandria's Wekalet Behna.

Filmed on the streets of Beirut in the 1980s, the film follows three generations of young people growing up in the heart of the Lebanese civil war...children who trade toy pistols for real ones, and the dreams, fears, and daily lives that carry on regardless. Told through honest, unguarded interviews, it remains one of the most powerful anti-war documents of its time.
𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬: Mai Masri, from Palestine, and the late Jean Chamoun, from Lebanon, met in Beirut and married in 1986, before founding Nour Productions together in 1995. Their documentaries have been screened in over 100 countries and won more than 80 international awards, airing on the BBC, Channel 4, PBS, and Al Jazeera, giving voice to the everyday lives of people in Lebanon and Palestine. Each also went on to direct an acclaimed first feature: Chamoun's In the Shadows of the City (2000), awarded the Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Junior Festival, and Masri's 3000 Nights (2015), which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and collected 28 international awards.
𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐍𝐚𝐝𝐢 𝐋𝐞𝐤𝐨𝐥 𝐍𝐚𝐬: Founded in Beirut in 1998, Nadi Lekol Nas ("Club for All") is a non-profit cultural association and film club dedicated to preserving Lebanese and Arab film, music, and literary heritage: finding, restoring, and making accessible decades of work that might otherwise be lost or forgotten. On its 25th anniversary, it moved into the Safir building in Hamra, Beirut, where it opened a library housing a paper, audio, and visual archive, open to researchers, students, and anyone curious enough to walk in.
/// Please note that our library has limited seats and we work on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors open at 6:30PM and the screening starts at 7:00 PM or earlier in case the space reaches its full capacity. Thank you for understanding and see you on Tuesday!///
