First of all, don’t get stuck on the word ‘jazz’. Aficionados would frown and you’d just be limiting your scope. Nutty is, simply, good music. Nutty is entertainment. Start with pop/rock classics that still resonate all these years later. Then add the Nutty formula; there’s all kinds of stuff going on besides straight-ahead jazz to keep you occupied, like big band swing, sassy Latin/Afro-Cuban rhythms, moody Crime Jazz and lounge fun, but then you’ve got these sneaky reveals of film and TV themes and sudden bursts of pop/rock quotes just to see if you’re paying attention. And you gotta pay attention. This band swings hard. And they dress real sharp, too.
The band members comprise top of the crop SoCal players who’ve collectively played sessions or toured with the likes of Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, Jack Sheldon, Michael Buble, Mel Torme, The Eagles, Pat Benatar, Macy Gray, The English Beat, etc., etc. And that swank cat front and center, Sonny Moon, is kinda quirky and irreverent; he’ll get you laughing all the while he’s singing his heart out and his ass off. Guaranteed you’ll be amused and amazed.
Don Heckman of the LA Times calls Nutty “A one-of-a-kind band with a swinging, old school Vegas swagger,” James Nadal from All About Jazz dubs it “A cunning approach with immediate appeal,” and LA Jazz Scene’s Scott Yanow says, “The music is as memorable as it is unique.”
Cover/tribute bands are a dime a dozen. This is something completely ELSE. If you haven’t seen Nutty, now’s the time. If you know somebody who has, ask them.
