Our mental health is deeply connected to what we eat — not only through nutrients, but through the trillions of microbes living in our gut.
Delivered as a focused two-hour masterclass, this foundational session opens a six-part Nutritional Psychiatry Series exploring the links between food, gut health and mental wellbeing. Drawing on current gut–brain science and nutritional psychiatry, psychiatrist and Mind & Nature founder Dr Ivan Lin explains how everyday food choices influence the gut microbiome, stress resilience, mood and long-term mental health.
This flagship session lays the groundwork for the entire Nutritional Psychiatry Series and is recommended as the starting point. The masterclass also includes a live microscope viewing of a prepared gut slide, offering a rare, tangible glimpse into the microscopic world that supports digestion, immunity and brain health — explained in clear, everyday language.

What you’ll explore:
• How the gut–brain axis influences mood, stress and mental health
• The role of the gut microbiome in emotional wellbeing
• Practical, inclusive ways to care for your gut microbiome
• A guided microscope viewing to visualise gut structure and function
What’s included:
• A two-hour, evidence-based masterclass led by a psychiatrist
• Microscope viewing of a prepared gut slide
• Complimentary tea and coffee on arrival
• A take-home gut microbiome care reference card
• Priority access to the rest of the Nutritional Psychiatry Series
Who this is for:
• People interested in mental wellbeing, prevention and food as medicine
• Those curious about gut health, the microbiome and mood
• Health-conscious community members seeking evidence-informed guidance
• No prior science or nutrition background required
Important Information:
Across the Nutritional Psychiatry Series, the focus is on evidence-informed, flexible approaches to eating that support mental wellbeing — not rigid rules, food ideology or one-size-fits-all diets. This masterclass is intended for educational purposes only and is not a substitute for personalised medical or dietary advice.
Please note that photographs and videos may be taken during this event for promotional and educational purposes. If you do not wish to be included, please let us know on the day.
