About this Event

January always excites us to change our old ways and create new healthy habits. Often this is joining the gym or doing a 30 day food challenge. All this is great, but mostly we are missing a key bit of information about what foods to eat, how to eat them, when to eat them, and a few taste ways to prepare them. Food is medicine. If we can look at our food as a way to heal our bodies and heal our mind we can begin our health journey. Living in San Diego we are blessed with so many local, organic, and regenerative farms who provide some of the country's best produce. This living medicine is key to having more energy, reducing brain fog, increasing our gut flora, and getting all our nutrients for long-term health and well being.

We don't need to look at health as bland and tasteless foods that are low calorie and tasteless. Food needs to be brightly colored, freshly picked, excite our senses, and bring us joy. Food needs to satiate, nourish, and invite others to gather together.

In this workshop, we will go over seasonal eating. Mood and emotional based issues that we can regulate with a healthy diet and lifestyle. We will discuss foods that are optimal to fight diseases, reduce inflammation, help with weight-loss, and regulate our overall well-being by regulating our cortisol, blood sugar and mood. We will also discuss how to maintain this month to month to be successful in making changes to our health goals.

Have kids that refuse to eat vegetables? Or do you want your kids to grow up eating all kinds of foods? We will go over some ways in which you can introduce more vegetables into their diet and why it's important we begin this right away.

Bring a notebook and something to write with. Wear comfortable, closed-toed shoes so that we can walk around the farm and learn more about seasonal produce, why eating seasonally and locally are ideal, and how to cook these foods in your home.

I have been teaching kids, cooking in my classrooms, and helping parents introduce a more diverse diet to their kids for over 20 years. This has led me down a path of integrative health and now I hope to help adults make these decisions for themselves and for those with kids as well.

This class is taught by Chamila Edussuriya.
