Dayton nurses & nursing students: Badge-in to Nurses Week with an early evening break! We'll eat, drink, connect & learn some lost history.
About this Event

This year's Nurses Week official theme is "Nurses Make the Difference," to which we add the question, "at what cost?" Most of our stories get lost, but this evening we'll learn about an undersung nursing pioneer, and hear from nurses and allies who are challenging stale stereotypes about our roles in an increasingly dysfunctional health care industry.
Like last year’s Nurses Lunch Break at Courthouse Square, you’ll have the chance to eat, drink, and meet nurses from a range of nursing and health related organizations. as well as have a 3 minuter say at the mike, if you’re so inclined!
The Dayton International Peace Museum was established in 2004 to commemorate the 1995 Dayton Peace Accords that ended the war in Bosnia. The museum's mission is to inspire people to work for greater peace and compassion through education and collaboration. Recognizing that many healthcare workers have undergone high levels of traumatic stress in recent years, they're currently working on a new art and healing program specifically for us.
Our featured speaker will be Lynn McDonald, a Canadian sociologist and former member of the Canadian Parliament. A lifelong advocate for women’s rights and environmental health, Ms McDonald has extensively studied and written about public health history. She’s written about both Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole, but tonight will be introducing us to nursing pioneer, Kofoworola Abeni Pratt.

We’ll also hear from Ron Smith, father of Dayton nurse,Tristin Smith, whose posthumous “Letter to my Abuser” drew international attention to the stresses of bedside nursing. A variety of nursing organizations and health-related advocacy groups will also be on hand to talk about their work.
