About this Event

This Independence Day weekend, as Chicago's Puerto Rican community gathers in Humboldt Park for the historic Jolgorio Boricua: No Kings, No Colonies celebration—a call for self-determination, cultural affirmation, and solidarity—Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center welcomes two influential voices from Puerto Rico, rapper Siete Nueve and producer, DJ, finger drummer, and MC El S, for a special residency at La Resi and an unforgettable evening dedicated to the power of words.

Nuestra Lírica: Hip hop de Pe-erre & The Chi brings together artists whose work reminds us that lyrics are more than entertainment—they are memory, testimony, resistance, healing, and imagination.

Joining Siete Nueve and El S are two of Chicago's most compelling voices: Chicago Poet Laureate Mayda Del Valle and acclaimed hip-hop artist Pinky Ring. Together, these artists will share performances, stories, creative process, and dialogue exploring how poetry and music shape identity, challenge injustice, preserve culture, and inspire transformation.

Throughout the evening, audiences will experience live performances, artist conversations, dj sets, and moments of collective reflection that blur the boundaries between concert, poetry reading, community gathering, and cultural dialogue. Rooted in the spirit of Puerto Rico and Chicago, Nuestra Lírica celebrates the artists who use words to build bridges, reclaim narratives, and envision freer futures.
