NPYC - Lazy River Cruise

Join in the fun on a Saturday afternoon 'tubing' on the Potomac River, an annual National Potomac Yacht Club tradition. Read through this entire description:
Be at Columbia Island Marina at NOON. Departing from Columbia Island Marina at 1pm, a cluster of floats, tubes, rafts, kayaks, dinghys, SUPs and coolers will be towed up river behind one or more yachts, towing past the Lincoln Memorial, Georgetown, Key Bridge, and then back to the marina at low speed. A 'lazy' tube trip.
Family friendly - bring the kids.
Wear a bathing suit. Bring your float and refreshments. Life jackets are **required** to be in your possession (adults) and worn (kids) when being towed by a boat (Walmart has some for $7, also West Marine, or Amazon, or you may be able to borrow one). Floats suitable for towing also available at those retailers, and sometimes at Costco. Ideally your float accommodates 2 persons or more. Inner tubes are not recommended as your butt will be dragged several miles (be able to be completely out of the water on your float).
Allow time for inflating your 'vessel'. If you have a powered inflator, bring it. Coolers that affix to your float are encouraged. Sunscreen. Cheap sunglasses. A means to secure your cell phone or anything valuable or not waterproof. Towels for after.
Limited storage of dry items might be available on the tow vessel, especially any food/snacks you're sharing. Preferably label your stuff with your name. Backpacks, duffels, or bags that zip closed are best. Open tote bags are discouraged as they get knocked over and spill all your stuff.
We may have a ski boat or two towing those that wish to go a little faster out in the wake zone south of Memorial Bridge.
Meet up at the boat ramp at Columbia Island Marina with float(s), coolers, life jackets, etc. Bring some dock lines or ski or tow ropes if you have them so you can help tie the raft together. Climb-rated carabiners are helpful to link things as well.
Since this activity requires a reasonably good headcount to allow for sufficient towing yachts, a serious RSVP is requested. Everyone is welcome.
We typically anchor at 3 Sisters or thereabouts for a short while for lunch (BYO food/drink).
SUPs are welcome if you're an experienced rider BUT, NO FINS are permitted. 100% chance you will spill and roll over if your SUP goes sideways, and it will go sideways beyond your control. So SUPs yes, FINS no. If your fins are removable, you're all set.
Again, heavy duty floats that keep all of your body out of the water are best. The kind for high-speed towing are ideal.
