November Outing – Wichita Mountains, OK
On November 14, we will have an outing at Wichita Mountains
Wildlife Refuge near Lawton, Oklahoma which is about 2.5
hours away from Fort Worth. Its waters include twelve man
made lakes totaling approximately 500 acres. Fishing season is
year-round. Available species include largemouth bass, sunfish,
crappie, and channel catfish. Several of the lakes are paddle
only while the larger lakes allow for motors. All lakes are no
wake. Be sure to look at the website for details.
There are lots of camping sites available. You can tent camp
or stay in your RV. It is recommended that you make your
reservations beforehand. There are cabins in Medicine Park, a
quirky village next to the Refuge. They might be stocking trout
at this time in river that runs through town. There are also
VRBO/hotels near the wildlife area and even more in Lawton
Oklahoma which is about 15 minutes away. We are not staying
as a group so you will be on your own for lodging.
You can bank fish or wade some of the lakes, however a kayak or
personal watercraft is your best option for success catching fish.
This outing is in November, it is in Oklahoma, so the weather
might be a factor. We will provide more details closer to time.
