This November, we are running both beginner AND intermediate Charleston classes! Both classes will be three week progressive series, as we will not be meeting on Thanksgiving. No partner or experience is required for our beginner class!Charleston is an energetic dance that is one of the precursors to Lindy Hop. It originated in Black American culture, arising with the jazz music of the time. As the music evolved, the dance did as well. For more information, check out the Swungover post "Made in Carolina: The Rich History of the Charleston" here: https://swungover.wordpress.com/2018/03/09/made-in-carolina-the-rich-history-of-the-charleston/
Our beginner class will get you started with the Charleston basics. On the social floor, dancers often mix and match Charleston and Lindy Hop in their dancing to create fun new patterns and rhythms, but knowing Lindy Hop is not required to learn Charleston!
Our classes are designed to be progressive series. That means each class builds on the previous one, so it is best to come every week! Both the beginner and intermediate classes will run from 7-8pm on Thursday, and each class costs $15.
Our intermediate Charleston class will expand on the basic Charleston you already know, and will introduce some new moves to play with!
After the lessons, from 8-10pm is our weekly social dance! Come dance the night away to our swinging DJs every Thursday. The social dance costs $8, $5 with student ID, or is FREE for folks who take lessons beforehand.
Both the lessons and the social dance are located at The Brownhoist, at 4403 St Clair Ave., Cleveland, OH 44103. Free parking is available in the lot at the corner of St. Clair and E. 45th, as well as on surrounding streets.
