I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman
Discover the haunting, heartbreaking post-apocalyptic tale of female friendship and intimacy set in a deserted world.
Deep underground, thirty-nine women are kept in isolation in a cage. Above ground, a world awaits. Has it been abandoned? Devastated by a virus?
Watched over by guards, the women have no memory of how they got there, no notion of time, and only vague recollection of their lives before. But, as the burn of electric light merges day into night and numberless years pass, a young girl - the fortieth prisoner - sits alone and outcast in the corner.
Soon she will show herself to be the key to the others' escape and survival in the strange world that awaits them above ground. The woman who will never know men.
The Green Room, Waterloo
A hidden gem nestled along South Bank, our dog-friendly restaurant and bar offer a charming escape, just moments away from the National Theatre, BFI Southbank, and the London Eye.
With a welcoming atmosphere, exquisite cuisine, and handcrafted cocktails, we invite you to indulge in a unique blend of local flair and cultural richness, making us the perfect spot for both locals and tourists to enjoy with their furry companions.
From £39.50pp you can unlock bottomless prosecco, green Rum Punch, mimosa, and Tropical soda mocktails every Saturday & Sunday at The Green Room when you order one large plate or two small plates!
For small plates, try the cured beetroot salmon delight, sizzling jerk chicken skewers, or the zingy buffalo glazed halloumi fries. Larger appetites will love the Green Bliss acai bowl, our great selection of egg dishes, Mediterranean shakshuka, pancakes with fresh blueberries, or French toast with summer berry compote.
Pizza lovers can choose between Florence, Margherita, and Garden pizzas. For burger enthusiasts, we offer a beef burger, vegan burger, and chicken porcini buttermilk burger. Our vibrant superfood salad and classic Caesar salad are also available with optional add-ons like grilled chicken or smoked salmon.
Vaulty Towers, Waterloo
Part pub, part theatrical production, this Waterloo-based boozer is owned by the brains behind The Vaults (the arts company in the tunnels under Waterloo station) – and you can tell. The place is littered with humungous props that whisper of onstage antics: a gigantic replica moon sits among tables and a ginormous pair of glittery red lips smile brightly at drinkers. One of the tables is a treehouse accessed by a mini staircase, another is in a little grotto, strewn with camo nets. One of the bar stools is so deliberately, comically high that you can sit with your bum positioned a clear foot above the bar.
