Equipping Youth for Connection in a Disconnected Digital World
Abstract:
With the increase of adolescents struggling with mental health issues, we are aware that this generation is different from the previous generation of teens. Many blame the advent of personal technology like cell phones and social media. Although technology negatively impacts adolescents' holistic health, we often fail to see an additional catalyst to the epidemic of relational disconnection and poor identity development. This workshop will address technology's biological, psychological, and sociological impact on teens while also identifying the correlation of meeting core needs to healthy emotional intelligence and identity formation. Licensed Mental Health Counselors, Pastors, Youth Workers, and Parents will learn to identify deficiencies in core needs and the influence technology has on teen development while applying this knowledge to daily interactions with adolescents to improve holistic health.
Learning Objectives:
1) List core needs in youth to be met for optimal health
2) Compare biopsychosocial differences in adolescents from previous generations
3) Be able to identify deficiencies in core needs in the youth counselors, parents and youth
workers work with.
Fellowship is at 730am. Announcements and devotion will begin at 745am. One CEU will be provided (for 2024-25 members or those that purchase a single CEU ticket).
