Florida Surf Film Festival, presented by Monster Energy and Surfing's Evolution and Preservation Foundation, and partnered with Daytona State College's School of Digital Media Production, returns to the Daytona State College's News-Journal Center on Fri. and Sat., November 14th and 15th, featuring two incredible line-ups with all new work by early to mid-career artists and some unique, comedic looks at surf culture. Festival passes are now available, along with offering VIP perks such as reserved seating, meals, and drinks.
Opening Night Party – Thursday, November 13, 2025 | Beachside Tavern, New Smyrna Beach
Kick off the weekend with a live podcast event featuring David Scales and Chas Smith from The Grit and Noble Rot podcasts, interviewing John Philbin (Turtle from North Shore, Point Break, Tombstone) and Luke Cederman (Raglan Surf Report). Stick around for a performance by One by One. Tickets are sold separately for $20 and .
Friday, November 14 – News-Journal Center
The evening begins with a global cinematic journey exploring surf culture, adventure, and artistry:
- – Surfer Ned Hart and filmmaker Oscar James chase Ireland’s heaviest waves and Scotland’s secret slabs.
- – Directors Will Bendix and Alan Van Gysen uncover Morocco’s mythical wave, surfed in secrecy for decades.
- – Directed by Keith Malloy, honoring U.S. Coast Guard veteran and surf photographer Christa Funk, followed by a live Q&A.
- – Special segments from the film with commentary and Q&A from actor and surfer John Philbin (Nathanial), sharing behind-the-scenes stories from the iconic surf heist film.
- Haus Tumbuna – A visually stunning short by Matty Hannon, spotlighting Papua New Guinea’s surf culture and connection to its natural environment.

Saturday brings more international surf stories, from the Arctic to the Mediterranean and beyond:
- – Directed by Nicolas Pena, featuring surfer Eurico Romaguera and photographer Jorge Abian chasing glacial waves in Greenland.
- – Rodrigo Valsamis’s film showcasing Greece’s emerging surf culture and Mediterranean beauty.
- Raglan Surf Report – Hilarious surf parodies by Luke Cederman, followed by a live Q&A.
- Cruz (The Kook Cook) – A darkly comic short by Cai O’Leary exploring lineup management.
- – A powerful, cinematic look at surfing’s most revered wave, with a possible Q and A with 11x World Champion and 8X Pipe Master, Kelly Slater.

Willing to risk it all in the most treacherous surf conditions, Christa is notorious for being the first in the water before sunrise and the last out after sunset. Her love of surf and photography are what keep her grounded and allow her to capture some of the most famous moments in surf history.
