About this Event
Join us for our November 2024 chapter meeting with guest speaker Mary Swanstrom, Manager – Public Relations at Port of Huntsville! Take a closer look at the strategy behind elevating the FlyHSV brand and how it landed them on Newsweek’s list as 2024 Readers’ Choice – Best Small Airport.
About Mary Swanstrom: Mary Swanstrom landed in Huntsville as an Army brat. She’s worked the early morning news at WAAY-TV and spent a decade at The Huntsville Times as a writer and editor where she learned to purge Oxford commas and love the challenge of big projects. Since then, Mary has jumped the fence from media to public relations. Mary was Director of Communications and Membership at Heart of the Valley YMCA, serving more than 51,000 individuals in five counties (including Morgan County) through the 501(c)(3)nonprofit community organization.
She joined the Port of Huntsville/Huntsville International Airport as Public Relations Manager in 2021, a natural progression for Mary since she grew up in the shadow of Hartsfield Atlanta Airport and actually enjoys the rumble of big planes overhead and the smell of jet fuel. Huntsville International Airport is the largest commercial airport in North Alabama serving close to 1.5 million passengers annually.
Mary graduated from Athens State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems and Marketing. She is a graduate of Leadership Huntsville-Madison County and has served as an Ambassador for the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce. She is an avid mountain biker and advocate for sustainable trail building. Mary is President of the Southern Off-Road Bicycling Association (SORBA), which is headquartered in Woodstock, Ga. and comprised of 47 chapters with more than 10,000 members in seven states. Mary is former president of HAMR (Huntsville Area Mountainbike Riders) and off trail, she gigs as a violinist with Felicity, a pop string quartet, and as a fiddler with .45 Surprise and other musicians.
