The Art of Southern Storytelling
Anthony Thaxton has made a career of telling Southern stories, from Walter Anderson to the popular Mississippi Public Broadcasting series Palate to Palette. In 2023, Thaxton helped found the Institute of Southern Storytelling at Mississippi College with his wife, Amy, and Robert St. John. The Institute brings an interdisciplinary approach to storytelling through studying the Southern experience. Participants will collectively produce inspiring and instructive films, art, music, and writing, which will help others reflect on the South’s unique place and its larger role in the world. Thaxton will reflect on his award-winning work and what's next with the Institute.
Speaker Information
Anthony Thaxton has won awards as a television director, painter, educator, photographer, writer, musician, and filmmaker (including a Southeast EMMY Award). He is a founding partner in the Institute for Southern Storytelling at Mississippi College (where he was named the 2019 Distinguished Art Alumnus of the Year). He lovingly writes, produces, directs, and edits programming about the South. Learn more here.

The Rickhouse Parking Info:
Attendees are encouraged to park in the free Baptist Medical Center parking garage, which is accessible from Poplar Blvd. (across from Keifer’s). To enter the Rickhouse by The Manship (717 Poplar Blvd.), exit the garage to Poplar Blvd. The Rickhouse is located next to Jimmy John’s on the first floor (north facing side) of the parking garage building. Additional street parking is available as well as an open lot on the west corner of North and Poplar Streets.
