Nourish & Flow: Dinner 6

This 8 week dinner series invites guests to share a delicious meal with friends and fellow supporters of Black Lives Matter Grassroots Detroit, and The Detroit Safety Team.

BLMDetroit actively participates in the cultivation of a culture that uplifts, and honors the multitude of life experiences within Black communities and across all spectrums. We use our platform to uplift long-standing activists; providing avenues for:

• political education
• artistic expression and education
• cultural, social, economic analysis
• food and nutrition justice activism
• direct support for those impacted by state-sanctioned violence.

The Detroit Safety Team works to redefine safety, engage conflict, and create intentional structures of social practice that support community-centered healing.We envision a future where communities are sustainably self-sufficient, and safety is a social skill, not a punitive system of control. Via participation in our citywide fellowship, workshops & events, utilizing our event safety, and training services, as well as our transformative process services, local grassroots organizations, community groups, friends, neighbors and colleagues can access frameworks and support to build up this reimagined understanding and praxis of community safety.

Curtis is a community chef whose work is rooted in a deep love for food, farming, and activism, with a passionate focus on the liberation of Black people across the diaspora.

Curtis' culinary journey is driven by a profound connection to Black American food, exploring its ties to other Black food traditions across the globe. They create a space where Black people can experience the joy of food, recognizing its historical and cultural significance as a link to our ancestors.

They have travelled to many African Countries between 2018 and 2025 to learn the African Foodways (Ghana, Benin, Togo, Senegal, and Cameroon). Through their work and travels, Curtis continues to create a bridge between the past and present, using food as a medium to explore, honor, and celebrate Black culture and its vibrant connection to foodways across the African diaspora.
